December 2, 2008, Tuesday. I am in the final stages of preparation for the exhibit in January. We are preparing to go on the FFAT this coming Friday and to the High and Dry photography opening. Again I was too busy and didn't get around to submitting anything to the exhibit. After the exhibit in January, my art will probably take a bit of a back burner for a while as I try to finish my PhD dissertation.

November 12, 2008, Tuesday. Time is flying by and I am working to get ready for January. To the right is a referance photo of the pretty, young model I worked with tonight. I still have a lot of work to do and Künstler is being a pain "trying to help". I am ashamed that I didn't make it to the FFAT or the Local Color Studio tour this weekend. I did see the Ufizzi Gallery exhibit at the Museum of TTU and it is definitely worth going to see.

October 28, 2008, Tuesday. I have been working with several new models getting ready for the January exhibit. Things are coming along pretty well. I should have more time for artwork after next weekend when hunting season opens and our paleontology field season slows down a bit. We do have a phytosaur skull jacket to recover this weekend (see my Field Notes for more details). Künstler been stopping in and is anxious for us to get some work done. To the right you can see a quick photo of one of the new models from a couple of weeks ago. Tonight she did an excellent job with her posing. I got some ideas for what should be some wonderful images I want to create in the near future. The next two weeks are going to be crammed with art. There will be an opening for a landscape exhibit from Florence, Italy, at the Museum of Texas Tech, the First Friday Art Trail, and the Local Color Studio Tour. The Local Color Studio Tour takes place (November 8, 9). I have quite a number of friends who will be exhibiting their artwork during the tour.

October 14, 2008, Tuesday It has been busy the past few weeks. I have worked with a couple of new models and have another new model that I am looking forward to working with. Tonight it was a cold, rainy evening, so the model enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace. It was the first time she had modeled in several months. I have got to gear up and get more artwork done. I am buying a new printer that should help considerably. My schedule for the rest of the year is already overloaded and I know there will be last minute Christmas and Valentines shoots that will come up. Not to mention the exhibit at Hard Tops that will open in January. Since we were unable to go to the field last weekend and excavate a couple of skulls because of the weather, Künstler came by and spent some time going over several art projects. As usual, he is WAY behind on his work. Oh well, tomorrow is just another day.

September 16, 2008, Tuesday I have been working on putting together images for the exhibit at Hard Tops Gallery in January. There will be a variety of my "usual" style of photography, some pin-hole images, and some more contemporary work. Künstler says he is going to have some new pieces ready for the exhibit but I will believe that when I see them. The heavy rains changed some of my plans to work on art last week. Hopefully this week will work out better. I am also working on new images for the website. It has been way too long since I updated my portfolios. I made it to the Tuesday Night Life Drawing group tonight. It was only the second time in the past six weeks I have been to drawing. Our model had an emergency and had to cancel, so even I had to model for the group tonight.

September 9, 2008, Tuesday Things are beginning to settle down after the semester has started. I had some photography on exhibit at Hard Tops Gallery on the First Friday Art Trail on September 5. I have been working on some pin-hole photographs over the past couple of weeks and then finally tonight I was back on my regular schedule for the first time in over a month. It was the first time I have been able to work with the model at right since early summer. I am working on some new artwork for the two-man show in January at Hard Tops. I hope to basically finish my dissertation by January, so I am going to have a busy fall. I think they call it NO SLEEP. At least Künstler has been busy and hasn't been around lately; so that keeps Gretchen happy and me out of trouble!

August 27, 2008, Thursday The past month has been very busy (nothing new). Gretchen and I made a week trip to Tucumcari, New Mexico, and Denver, Colorado, in August for vert paleo purposes and that detracted from my getting some of my artwork done (see the Field Notes). I have been working on some of my artwork for my January exhibit at Hardtops. I will have four or five pieces in the upcoming Hardtops' 2nd Annual Photography exhibit for the First Friday Art Trail on September 5. Künstler has almost finished one of the jewelry pieces he has been working on and is preparing to finish some ceramic pieces for the January exhibit. To the right is a pin-hole photo I made earlier in the month. I made a series of images using a pin-hole adapter on a digital camera since my normal pin-hole camera made from a Speed Graphic is in a museum exhibit right now. I am trying to co-oirdinate schedules with several different models to get more artwork made for the upcoming exhibit, especially with the recent geologic events.. There has been some volcanic eruptions in the Aleutian Islands and we have been having some beautiful sunsets and sunrises (this morning's seen at right). In the West Texas portfolios and some of the Wildlife and Natural Beauty Captured portfolio you can see some images made during past volcanic eruptions such as Mount Saint Helen. With the cooler weather the wildlife seems to be a bit more active also (burrowing owl at right).

July 29, 2008, Tuesday The past couple of weeks have been very busy. I have been helping Künstler with some jewelry and ceramics. I have been working on some photography for the Hard Tops exhibit. I do need to get some new models for the artwork for the exhibit. I am working on having all new artwork. It was nice the past couple of weeks to take a break and enjoy sketching with the Tuesday Night Life Drawing group.

July 8, 2008, Tuesday The past few weeks have been fast and furious with work and research, so I haven't had a great deal of time for art. Gretchen and I did make the First Friday Art Trail on July 4th and visited with a number of friends and artists on the tour. I have a lot of work to do to get ready for our two man show for the FFAT at Hard Tops in January, but I have been working on it. It should be a pretty interesting exhibit with my photography and Künstler's ceramics, sculptures, and other artwork. I have been working with my friend Wilhelm Künstler finishing a piece of jewelry. It is looking "pretty kewl". We shall see how it turns out in the end. I have made the Life Drawing group the past few weeks, but my sketches haven't been up to par. I think it is a lack of concentration because of so many other things going on. Tonight wasn't any better.

June 17, 2008, Tuesday It has been another busy week. I have helped Künstler with the ring design he is working on. It is coming along well. I have not been working on my photography as much as I should have. My exhibit at Hard Tops in January will be here before I know it!!! And I have a lot of work to do. Tonight I worked with one of my regular models. I got some nice photograhs and some nice beginnings for some paintings. and/or more detailed drawings. She, as always, did a wonderful job modeling.

June 10, 2008, Tuesday I got quite a bit of work done the past couple of weeks. I processed my negatives for the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day and submitted the image. There are many nice pinhole photos in the gallery. I helped Künstler work on a ring design also. It is coming along. I think it will be surprisingly cool and a one of a kind piece! I have been working with a new model on Tuesday nights for the past few weeks. She has been doing an excellent job. I had some photos on exhibit at Hard Tops for the First Friday Art Trail. I have started working on my exhibit for January at Hard Tops. Most will be new images, but I also am going through some of my files for images I have not previously exhibited (as you see at right).

May 22, 2008, Thursday It has been a busy but interesting month. Re-vamped my website as you may have noticed. Have some new images in the works for the portfolios. Tuesday night I worked with a model for the first time since last year. Got a few decent drawings from the session. Getting ready for a couple of exhibits at the Hard Tops gallery and made a few moonlit images this week. I have to get my pinhole images I took on the WWPP day processed and submitted.

May 6, 2008, Tuesday Last week was not a fun week with a variety of medical tests. Then Meaghan, Katherine, Gretchen, and I made parts of the First Friday Art Trail. We had an enjoyable time and there was a very nice exhibit at LHUCA. I was told tonight someone was trying to find my friend Künstler at the FFAT to see about buying one of his pieces of artwork. Künstler didn't make the FFAT this time but said he was going to make the next one. Monday was another day of medical tests and identifying fossil specimens. We started getting some rain for a change. Tuesday was a bit back to normal. We had more rain and hail. Several of our localities got some pretty good rains and may get more. I spent Tuesday evening working with one of my regular models. A few nice drawings that I may be able to develop into something good.

April 20, 2008, Sunday Thursday I took Gretchen to the "Preview Party" for the Lubbock Arts Festival. Saw many artists/friends, some I have visited with recently and some that I haven't seen in a while. Some I hadn't seen since last year's arts festival. Then, Friday, we went to the opening of the new addition of the Natural Science Research Laboratory.

February 12, 2008, Tuesday Tonight I was able to resume my normal Tuesday night schedule. It has been about six months since I had worked with this model. She, as always, did an excellent job and I got some very nice images to work with. It was nice to get back on my regular schedule of work. I have a small exhibit of my art next week.

January 1, 2008, Tuesday As I often say, life is like a Jimmy Buffett song. Here is to "just another candle" and our next "trip around the sun". New Year's day was a beautiful day in West Texas. Spent part of the day in "the dungeon" working. To the right is one of the images I am working on to update my portfolios. I have been remiss at updating them because of working on my paleontology research. I looked at changing my home page and bio, but I haven't changed my feelings expressed on my home page and I think the Bio by Mere couldn't be expressed any better. Wilhelm Künstler came by the past couple of days for my help to work on some art projects. He has a couple of special commissions he is working on with short deadlines; so, I will try to help him a bit. Well, I need to get to work. Tomorrow begins a long month at work. Here is a toast to our next "trip around the sun" together mein liebchen.
