January 17, 2010, Wednesday Last night was the first time I worked with a model this year (see images at right). Classes and work have kept me busy but I need to get in gear for my next exhibit. I have been so busy that I have not even made the FFAT the last two months. I have received a lot of feedback from the exhibit in January and now have a number of new models to work with. My friend Künstler has been bouncing some ideas off me for some new artwork. Some of it has good potential, in my opinion. His works from the January FFAT were very well received. I still have his sculptural pieces from the January exhibit hanging in my townhouse, waiting for him to pick them up and ship back; although, he says several are taken. I passed all my radioactive safety training and should be starting on the project photographing radioactive rat skulls next week. Interesting project. As of March 1, I am no longer the full time Collections Photographer at the Museum. I am now half time photographer and half time Assistant Curator of the Paleontology Division. About the only change is between 8 - 5, I will be spending more time in Paleo. Today was interesting as I started out photographing reptilian caudal vertebrae, then photographed antique women's undergarments (circa 1860's), and finished up this afternoon sorting crap (coprolites - fossil feces). One thing about my work is that it is usually not boring and changes frequently.

January 9, 2010, Saturday Last night was the First Friday Art Trail and the opening for the exhibit at Hard Tops Gallery with Wilhelm Künstler, Joe Miller, and Eddie Jo Miller. The temperature had been below freezing since Tuesday afternoon when it was 67 degrees F. There were not huge crowds at the opening, but a steady stream of people. It was nice to see a lot of friends I hadn't seen in a while. There was quite a bit of interest Künstler and numerous questions about his scuptural installations. Joe and Eddie Jo's photography was quite popular as well. The staff at Hard Tops did an excellent job and we appreciate all of their hard work.

January 3, 2010, Sunday We are hanging our exhibit at the Hard Tops Gallery tomorrow. I will be exhibiting with Wilhelm Künstler, Joe Miller, and Eddie Jo Miller. The exhibit will open for the First Friday Art Trail on Friday, January 8, 2010. My photography will include some old work that the late Mark Ruzicka, founder of Hard Tops, liked and some new images to go with them. Künstler is showing some artwork that inspired Mark to call him from New Orleans. As a tribute to Mark and to Randy Cooper, the artist who inspired Mark, Künstler adapted the look of the artwork to his own interpretation. To the right is one of Künstler's usual sculptural works and bottom right is one of the tribute sculptural fabrications. The somewhat inclimate weather over the holidays allowed us time to do some final touches on some artwork and get some new artwork started. I should have gotten out and shot some images of the "White Christmas", but I was too busy working on other things. Hopefully, I will be finishing up classes this spring and will have more time to create art. I have ideas for several new projects and want to expand and finish some of my existing projects. I took Jimmy Buffett's advice from one of his songs. For this trip around the sun, I made no New Year's resolutions. As always, I wish this next trip around the sun will be the best ever for you. Brave the cold weather and we will see you at Hard Tops on Friday.
